Jimmy Wayne is known for following his conscience, but no one ever dreamed his conscience would take him this far. Last week Wayne set out on foot from Nashville, trekking overland all the way to Phoenix, AZ on a quest to improve the fate of homeless youth in the USA.
Wayne is well acquainted with the perils facing at-risk youth, particularly those aged 18-21, who often end up on the streets after they “age out” of foster care and other state programs. Wayne’s walk is being supported by two key organizations: Monroe Harding in Nashville and HomeBase in Phoenix.
“I realize beginning a mission like this in the dead of winter and walking through the middle of the country is going to be difficult, but I hope and pray I am up to the challenge. “It’s going to be cold, rainy and maybe even snowing and that ground I sleep on at night is going to be really hard. But that’s what the homeless are dealing with each and every winter they go without a home of their own. Our country is too great for us to have people who are suffering so.” – Jimmy Wayne, on his “Meet Me Halfway” walk.
