Eli
|
Eli has been a patient at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since 1994. In 1989, he was born with a genetic disease called Hurlers syndrome that requires a bone marrow transplant for treatment. His first bone marrow transplant, performed in 1990 at a regional hospital in the Pacific Northwest, was unsuccessful. When his doctors decided he needed a second transplant in 1993, our insurance company refused to pay. Fortunately for us St. Jude came to the rescue and they have been treating Eli ever since. He did receive a second transplant in 1994, but he rejected the graft. However, St. Jude doctors do not give up and in 2002 they had the amazing technology to treat Eli with a stem cell transplant. Eli's dad was his donor and the transplant was a success!!
Eli's St. Jude doctors continue to monitor his health and progress on a yearly basis. Our trips for checkups are like visits with family and luckily the doctors/staff are only a phone call away between check-ups! Eli is a happy, healthy almost-18 year old because of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital research and dedication to children with catastrophic illnesses We are forever grateful to St. Jude and the generous donors who support the hospital.
