Did you hear someone took the Atheist sign that was being displayed at the Capitol Building in Olympia and dropped it off here at the KMPS studio for Ichabod Caine and the Waking Crew! An unidentified man gave the $400 dollar sign to our receptionist and asked if she could give it to Ichabod. The sign was returned and will be put back up on display at the Capitol but fencing has been put up to keep theives from taking it again!
Call me up at 1(800) 464-94FM and let me know what you think! Should they keep it up or take it down?
It’s Amy Lynn! I hope to see you this Saturday! I’ll be hitting the tracks on Alki Tours Snowtrain to Leavenworth for Tree Lighting Day! Hollywoods “foxiest” ladies like Beyonce and Heros Hayden Panettiere are sporting a new line of unmentionables…Foxers! Foxers Boxers are a new line of ladies boxers that have a comfy waistband ending right above the jean line. And, instead of the usual cotton mens boxers, Foxers are nylon and are made to let you fit in those little jeans!
Step One: Increase Your Friendliness: Friendliness is key in the workplace. Your ability to communicate with others is a huge part of how people look at you. Make an effort to be cheerful, smile often and adopt a friendly mindset through positive body language and words.
Step Two: Raise Your Relevance:
Your relevance about your wants and needs can connect you with others. The more relevant you are, the more people like you. Relevance has three levels:
Contact: Sitting next to someone at a party or visiting a neighbor will increase your likability with others using “functional distance.” It will leave them with a positive impression of you and maybe a new friend.
Mutual Interests: Having some of the same interests and experiences with others can be a way to open up and create conversation. The more you have in common, the better people can get to know you.
Value: Relevance is most strong when the value you offer meets another person’s wants and needs. This can produce positive attitudes in the person’s mind of you.
To become more relevant, find ways to connect with the interests, needs and wants of others. Know what they’re passionate about inside and outside of work. Be aware of their emotional needs and try to be there to help them out if they need someone to talk to.
Step Three: Show Empathy
To show empathy, try to see things from someone else’s point of view and relate a personal experience you have had to what they are going through. When you connect with someone’s feelings, they feel like they aren’t alone and they have someone there. Ask yourself, do I:
-Know how that person is feeling about his or her life situation these days?
-Understand what it must feel like to perform the person’s tasks day after day — be it caring for an elderly relative at home or managing a heavy workload?
-Share the same emotions about key issues?
By making yourself more emotionally available, your connection with people will grow dramatically. Step Four: Keep It Real
It’s vital to be true to yourself and others. People can tell if your fake so to ensure you are showing people the real you, you need to:
-Do what you want to be doing in life.
-Live with purpose.
-Commit to the principles of your work.
-Be the same person on the outside as you are on the inside.-Be direct and honest with others.
The more you live by your values, the more people will see the real you! If people think you’re not real, they will discount your friendliness, relevance and empathy and will probably dislike you.
This year the holiday season could prove to be more of a struggle for more families due to the state of the economy. With thousands being laid off during this last year your help is needed more than ever. So, if you are blessed to have a little extra this holiday season, please give! Here are some things food banks are saying are the best things to give:
• Proteins. Tuna, chicken, fish and peanut butter are too expensive for food banks to buy in large quantities but all four contain major protein and are low in saturated fat.
• Soups and stews: They are often filled with protein and vegetables which can be filling and contains liquid for hydration.
• Cereal and oatmeal: Most cereals and oatmeal contains a variety of vitamins and minerals.
• Canned fruits: A small amount of Vitamin C is lost in the canning process, making these a very healthy choice this holiday season.
We are officially in a recession. Most companies are struggling but there are some trends that are staying strong and will stand the test of time! Here are a few things that will keep going up in a down economy:
Cheap food — Spam is big buy right now and is expected to be even bigger in ‘09. The Hormel Foods Corporation factory employees are working seven days a week to keep up with the demand. Other comfort foods Americans may be consuming a lot of is macaroni and cheese, Jell-O, and Kool-Aid this holiday season and into the coming year.
Old habits — New Year’s resolutions are still a few weeks away but it looks like many smokers are calling it quits because the price of cigarettes are too much. But, a recent survey by the American Legacy Foundation also found that some former smokers are starting to smoke again because of financial stress. And some current smokers are smoking more.
Second-hand merchandise — It might be cold outside but yard sales are still in full swing. While it’s slightly awkward to be hitting up yard sales in winter coats, yard sale season is stretching way beyond the summer months as shoppers look for deals and sellers are looking for extra cash. And though most other commercial retailers are facing a slump in sales, profits continue to go up at Goodwill centers.
Career alternatives – Many Americans are being laid off so where should you turn to learn a new trade, community college! Schools are expecting record levels of students and a recent rise in military recruitment is reportedly coming from the same pool of workers looking for alternatives.
Shared living spaces — You may have shared an apartment or house with a few of your friends in college but now many Americans are facing a financial crunch and are renting out spare rooms or bunking up with tenants.
What do you do with the baby when you need to use the public restroom? Easy, suspend your baby from the stall wall, using this device. While your busy, just strap the hooks on the stall door and plop baby in this cute little contraption. This handy Restroom Baby-Hanger can be yours for just $69.99!

Special Assignment: Nathan Chance Concert at Bonney Lake Days! After making the trek back home to Puyallup to get my hair done (the ends are now fresh and I have a new lighter shade of blonde, it looks very nice), I was in the neighborhood for the FREE Nathan Chance concert in the park in Bonney Lake. After clearing the confusion and telling my sister, Melanie that the concert was not in Bellingham, but much closer to home, she decided to come along. Together, we promoted Amy Lynn’s show and KMPS and I made one final push to get as many signatures on the red KMPS Intern shirt as possible. Although a torrential downpour soaked the park an hour prior to the concert, precipitation could not slow down Nathan Chance and the Northcoast, or their faithful fans. Bonney Lake Stars were there as well, and part way through the show there was an intermission and we heard four talented ladies perform. It was a delight to see Nathan Chance again, and they put on a great show as always. We even got the crowd to yell how they spell country on the radio. Although the execution of the task was lacking, there was sufficient enthusiasm and pep from the cold, damp crowd. Overall, it was a fabulous show and I couldn’t have done it without my photographer, Melanie who documented the entire experience and took pictures while the audience signed my shirt. I am feeling very proud at my attempt to cover the entire shirt in writing…in fact, think I got a signature from everyone in the park!
Thank you to all the Amy Lynn and KMPS fans who have endured awkward moments touching my shoulders, back, stomach, arm pits, and chest to sign the infamous “Intern Shirt.” I appreciate your willingness to participate and thanks to all of you, my comfort zone has expanded by leaps and bounds! Woosh! I’ve been very friendly with a lot of you! Don’t expect this to continue when I’m not wearing that shirt! ;-)

Picture this…Tony Thomas is really into the Olympics, he’s talking about how incredibly fit the Olympians are and how he would love to have muscles like them. In awe of the hurdlers, Tony says, “Could you imagine doing that??” And he kicks his leg up as if he was attempting to jump an imaginary hurdle, and hits the counter in the studio and jostles the papers and headphones sitting on the top. I find so much enjoyment in Tony’s enthusiasm and his love for the Olympics. Amy Lynn and I enjoy the games too. We’ve been watching them in between breaks on the radio.
Next Friday is the last day of my internship…boo, and I am working hard to wrap up loose ends, turn in assigned papers and projects to the Sociology department at Western, and make the most of my last few days in the studio. My experience this summer at KMPS has been phenomenal and I want to make sure I take every little memory of it with me, so I have been going through the MP3’s of all the Wednesday-Friday summer shows to find when I was on the air with Amy Lynn and burning them on a CD. It was a walk down memory lane as I listened to a crazy amount of Hollywood Headlines, song requests, contest winners, and weather updates to find the clips where Amy Lynn and I were on the radio together. I couldn’t help but smile when I listened because I could remember all the details of the shows along with the conversations and laughter Amy Lynn and I shared off the air. I’ve had so much fun this summer and although I am sad to leave, I am excited for the new adventures ahead!
Tomorrow is going to be a scorcher, that’s for sure. I have a plan to escape the heat and my old college house that has poor ventilation and dysfunctional windows that don’t open. Go shopping! I am meeting my mom at the Southcenter Mall tomorrow for some good company and air conditioned strolls through the largest mall in Washington. I hope you find a way to survive the record breaking heat and I’ll see you tomorrow!

I just got home from KMPS and felt like I had the appetite of Michael Phelps! Actually, I didn’t eat three sandwiches of fried eggs, cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, mayonnaise, an omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast with powdered sugar, and three chocolate-chip pancakes that he usually eats for breakfast. It’s not because I wasn’t hungry for that much food, but I could never afford it! Shoot, I could hardly pay for that entire meal, let alone the clothes I would have to buy to accommodate my new eating habits. I love lap swimming, but I am closer to moving at the speed of a snail than an Olympic gold medalist, and those fried egg sandwiches would slow me down, not fire me up as they do for Michael. So, a simple bowl of Kix cereal sufficed as an adequate snack for me.
Amy Lynn, Tony Thomas, and I were captivated by the Olympics tonight. When all the swimmers jumped in the pool at the same time, Amy Lynn and Tony had a moment of panic, but were relieved to discover that the swimmers were preparing for the backstroke. This is definitely better than the alternatives; the swimmers accidentally falling in the water at the same time, the swimmers experiencing disqualification because someone jumped the gun or the platform rather and entered the water before the whistle, or the swimmers using the pool as an escape route from a monstrous wasp! The possibilities are endless.
Speaking of Olympics, Amy Lynn and I think that there might be a lot of canoodling going on amongst the Olympians. So think about it…hundreds of extremely fit, very attractive athletes are all hanging out in Beijing at the same time. Being relatively in the same age group and enduring severe social drought while training for the games…why wouldn’t the Olympians be hooking up?? Amy thinks the key pick up line is, “Hey, do you wanna come up to my room and see my gold medal?” The language barrier might be somewhat of a problem, but love speaks all languages, and as long as you mastered this line in several different tongues, you are set for winning a gold medal in loving and one night stands! This is something you won’t be seeing at the closing ceremony, that’s for sure!
As for KMPS intern business, I’ve updated some important blogs that you may want to check out; Bush holding the American flag backwards at the Olympic Games (thank you Mr. President for making Americans look intelligent), along with pictures from the Brooks & Dunn and Festival of the River concerts. Amy Lynn met both Brooks & Dunn and Kellie Pickler, and I met Kellie, which was my first meet and greet with a star! I am feeling like hot stuff, let me tell you. The concerts this past weekend were amazing, and yet I am still feeling remnants of exhaustion from the busyness. However, I have no complaints and most of the time I am asking myself, what on earth have I done to deserve such a fun life?

Tonight was all work no play…just kidding!! I was very productive though. I updated the events on Amy Lynn’s Myspace, so if you are wondering about the next awesome concert, or if you are curious what the Puyallup Fair has in store, you can find details on both the KMPS website and Amy Lynn’s Myspace.
I also made a new photo album of pictures from the Nathan Chance concert in Bothell last Friday. You can check out the red intern shirt that Amy Lynn made for me. The Nathan Chance audience was wild about the shirt and had a blast signing it, so go online to Amy’s Myspace and look at all the pictures and the up close and personal contact I had with Amy Lynn’s fans.
Speaking of Myspace, I am updating mine. I’ve been solely a Facebook girl, but I have a Myspace that has been hanging out for years and collecting internet dust. As of two days ago, I thought to myself…let’s bring that space back to life! It should be done soon, and then maybe we can be friends via Myspace and in real life too! Fun times!
To help get a through the hump of the week, I took a break from the KMPS studio and went on a journey to pick up a healthy, frozen treat. The details are classified…if I told you I would have to duct tape your mouth closed. Not really…but with map quest in hand and a mission in mind, I once again conquered the streets of Seattle and found my destination with zero complications. Getting back to the station was a different story, but no worries…road construction and detours only slowed me down and confused me for a few minutes. One quick turn around under a deserted bridge and I was back in the right direction. Once again I thought of having a GPS. Soon I will have dreams about owning one.

Just for giggles, Amy Lynn and I dressed up in silly hats. Princess Amy Lynn is holding her delicious venti 7 pump non-fat, vanilla latte, and I am sporting a Little House on the Prairie look with the checked bonnet. We seriously have too much fun together, and the hats are just an expression of the overflow of good times we have in the studio. We should invite Alan Jackson over to KMPS and show him what a good time really looks like…princess crowns, bonnets, Starbucks, and radio!! And thanks to Tony for putting up with our wackiness and playing the role of the photographer in our photo shoot.
I experienced something foreign and new today, yet very exciting. Cheer camp! My sister Melanie, Cheer Captain at Emerald Ridge in Puyallup, was at NCA camp at UW this week, so I popped over to the soccer fields to watch the cheerleaders cheer and dance on their last day of camp. Being cheer camp, I was expecting extra doses of spirit and pep, but I was not expecting what I found. They did not speak. Everything was a cheer or rhyming jingle…leaders gave commands in chants, campers responded in chants, and spirit sticks actually exist! One thing that I thought was funny is when the girls were standing too close together they would yell…”peanut butter and jelly…spread out!” This is just one of the highly entertaining chants that echoed in the fields of the U. Amy Lynn and I had a fun cheerleading conversation on the air and actually practiced some cheers and chants together. We make a very good team and we should utilize our cheer talents and spirit fingers more often. Tomorrow when we leave the station for our Starbucks run, I might just have to say to Amy, “Tally ho! (clap, clap) Let’s go!!”
This morning I woke up early to get breakfast with some of my roommates. While I was getting ready and listening to Ichabod and the Waking Crew, I felt inspired to partake in one of the topics; if you were a NASCAR racer who had just won a race, what sponsors would you thank in your speech?
After giving it some thought, I decided if I were a NASCAR winner, my speech would go something like this… “I would like to thank Lean Cuisine for making easy to heat, high quality meals, which are perfect for single people like myself who are tired of making a meal for one. Thanks to the Buy One Get One sales (BOGO), the shoes in my closet have nearly doubled because of you. I would also like to thank Gene Juarez for providing top of the line hair cuts and colors. Coming from a non-paid intern perspective, I think they are overpriced; however I really enjoy the ice cold lemon water they serve in their salons. Thanks to Desert Sun for giving me that bronzed summer glow and increasing my chances for skin cancer. Thank you Starbucks, I will never grow tired of passion iced teas and lemon loafs. Taco Time, thank you for your fast freshness, and thanks to Delfinos Pizzeria in the U-Village, I appreciate your quality dining and outstanding service. Finally, I would like to thank Trader Joes for their ‘Two Buck Chuck’ signature wine that allows me to feel classy while eating cheese, without breaking the bank.
What would your speech sound like??

Today was one large KMPS extravaganza to the extreme. Here are the details.
First stop: Seafair parking. Being a new resident of Seattle, and having somewhat of a challenged sense of direction, I got horribly lost on the way to the Seattle Center. I was driving there to park my car and take the shuttle to Seafair, but my confusing Google directions lead me astray. After finding myself miserably in the wrong direction, I called my mom for directions. Luckily, with an extra dose of patience from both my mom and myself, I was able to get to the Seattle Center and find a seat on the shuttle, which was more of a gigantic charter bus. At this point, I was only mildly late, but the shuttle didn’t leave until it was almost full, and I’m pretty sure the route we took was the extra scenic one…perfect for a 45 minute trip to Lake Washington. After this experience, I decided what will be at the top of my Christmas list, GPS!
Second stop: actually getting to Seafair. After getting dropped off by the shuttle, my afternoon was spent with Stubbs, Jay, and Tricia at the KMPS tent. We talked to listeners and gave stickers and buttons away to eager teenagers who loved getting as many freebies as possible. I also watched the Blue Angels perform their daredevil stunts and I thought the hydro planes in the pit were very fascinating.
Third stop: KMPS. After getting off the shuttle, I went back to the station to pick up a shirt that Amy Lynn made for me to promote her show. It is adorable and the front of it says, “KMPS Amy Lynn’s Intern” and the back reads, “Listen to Amy Lynn Nights on KMPS.” I will be wearing it to different events to collect signatures. Be on the look out, come find me, and sign it!
Fourth stop: Bothell Landing Amphitheater. I met my mom and sister at KMPS and we drove to Bothell for the Nathan Chance concert. I wore the intern shirt and had people in the audience who love KMPS and Amy Lynn, sign their names. The concert really was amazing, and Nathan Chance put on an outstanding show as always. If you haven’t heard these guys, you must. Check out their website nathanchance.com and look at their concert schedule. They have a busy summer so there are plenty of opportunities to catch one of their shows.
Fifth stop: back to KMPS. I got back to KMPS just in time for the “Beat Kristina” contest. I played against Alice and although she beat me, we had the greatest time playing against each other. Alice had tons of spunk and energy and she kept yelling the answer before “beeping” in with her name. We were laughing uncontrollably in the station, and continued to chuckle about the game hours after it was over. My mom and sister also came in the studio and observed Amy Lynn doing her DJ thing and enjoyed watching radio instead of just hearing it. They were very impressed by Amy Lynn’s ability to multitask with phone calls, song requests, call editing, and talking on the air. She can do it all at once!
It was a crazy day…but super fun. I’m pretty sure my love for KMPS is growing exponentially. Do you know what else is growing exponentially? My need for sleep. Goodnight! It’s off to Silverdale tomorrow for some Burger King deliciousness and a continuation of KMPS fun!

Greetings! Today was a fantastic day, for many reasons, but one of the very exciting reasons is that I rode in Amy Lynn’s new Honda CRV!! Spacious seating + sleek exterior + comfortable ride + the new car smell = an awesome new car! I have to say that our Starbucks trip was even more of a treat riding in Amy Lynn’s new wheels.
Even though it is hard to imagine, there is one thing cooler than Amy Lynn’s new CRV…Amy Lynn was rated #1 for nighttime radio shows!! That calls for a great big hoop ‘n holler! Everyone at KMPS is super excited for her, and I am beaming with happiness. I feel so proud of her hard work, and I am so fortunate to be her intern. I am learning from the best of the best. Yay, Amy Lynn! As I like to say, you rule the rooster!
With so many good things, there’s got to be a tad of not so good news, and that’s my hair right now. Do you ever come home at the end of the day and look at your hair and think to yourself…how horribly unfortunate? I am currently experiencing that. It’s been a long day that has included walking over 5,310 steps, (thanks to my new, nifty pedometer I got at the Live at Lunch Concert Series in Bellevue today) and some of those steps have been in the rain. Based off my current hairdo disaster, I’ve decided that radio is a good field to pursue. Not only is it extremely fun, but if you’ve been outside, walking over 5,000 steps and the rain squashes and frizzes your hair, no one sees it. How convenient!

Today I engaged in classic intern activity…getting coffee! Amy Lynn was running the board for the last hour of Tony Thomas’ show while he was broadcasting from the Enumclaw Street Fair, so I jetted out to Starbucks to pick up our drinks while she was working hard in the studio. One of Amy’s favorite drinks is an iced, grande, 6 pump, non-fat, vanilla latte. Whew! Good thing she wrote that one down for me! The drinks went well with the chocolate chip cookies I made last night at midnight. Reading the wrong recipe, I added a ¼ cup too much brown sugar…but they still tasted good. And as Amy said, chocolate chip cookies are like pizza…good anyway they come.
My dad called in to request a song he heard on Ichabod’s morning show by the Trailer Choir. Despite our pursuit to find the desired beer belly song, we couldn’t locate the exact one he wanted. Trailer Choir’s “Off the Hillbilly Hook” sufficed as a good alternative. My dad had his 15 minutes of fame, or 15 seconds, rather as he and Amy Lynn had a great conversation about tr** stamps, and washing dirty mouths out with soap. Not that tr** stamp is entirely bad, just maybe not appropriate for a family radio show. ;-)
Tonight was the premiere of the contest, “Beat Kristina.” The topic was “The World of Country,” and since I’m relatively new to this country music business, I was a bit nervous about getting the right answers. I effectively hid my hesitation behind my ‘know it all’ demeanor, but I don’t know if the contest results backed up my supposed expertise of everything. I did however do better than my contestant Tony, who didn’t seem to know the answers to any of the questions, so I guess that made me look better than if I would have been blown out of the water. The game was a lot of fun though, and I am looking forward to playing it again next week. Watch out…this time I’m going to put my college skills to use and study before hand!!
In Amy Lynn’s next life, she is going to be an auctioneer. She just might be the best auctioneer of all time She recorded a spot that will be broadcast on air next week, and my oh my did she fit a lot of information in a short period of time. And by short, I mean 10 seconds. It would have taken you or me at least 15 seconds to say what she said in 10. And better yet, you can understand the whole thing! It’s not like those commercials where there’s someone at the end who talks insanely fast and tells you the exceptions to the great deal, the horrific side effects and every other negative thing the advertiser doesn’t want you to know. Amy Lynn is crystal clear, peppy, and speedy…I am forever learning about Amy’s different talents. She can recite the alphabet backwards faster than you can even say the word alphabet! She has been able to do this since the 2nd grade when she got a Kit Kat bar for being the first to be able to do it. Very impressive.
I am going to go practice my saying my alphabet in reverse order now. Have a great weekend!

While Amy Lynn was on her VW Tiguan Summer Getaway adventure this past weekend, she bought a mood ring. She was wearing it tonight, and according to the ring, she was feeling relaxed, at ease, and normal while sitting in the Starbucks drive thru. This seems to be an ideal mood to be in right before going on air. I wonder if the mood ring changed to an even better mood after drinking her coffee. This could become a good selling point for Starbucks and they could include mood rings in their advertising. Good idea!
267-SLY-DIAL: This has become my new favorite phone number. This is the number to call when you need to communicate with someone, yet you do not want to talk to them. Not coming to work and faking sick?? Avoiding painfully long conversations with someone who never shuts up?? This is the number for you! Amy Lynn tried it out and called my cell…and it worked! My phone didn’t ring, it went straight to voicemail, and she was able to leave a message and “fire me from my job” without fearing that she might actually have to talk to me. Too bad I was in the room with her and was in on her scheme! :) But the number really works…try it!!
I finished writing proposal letters for the sales department for a couple new contests for Amy Lynn’s show. Listen on Friday nights for a chance to go head-to –head with me and play “Beat Kristina!” It just might be the highlight of your week…especially if you win…in which case, would not be the highlight of my week. However, I am brushing up on my skills and knowledge so I will be prepared for anything and everything that might come my way!
As always, Amy Lynn and I spent a good portion of the evening in laughter. Giggling about SLY DIAL phone calls, the movie Elf, our dachshunds, fish pedicures, and peanut substitutes…we never seem to run short of funny things to talk about.
And I must admit that the Yee-Haw Hollywood Headlines have taken a hold of me. I usually look up some gossip everyday for the show, but I have never really been interested in celebrity news. But for my own leisure and curiosity, I just finished looking up pictures of Nicole Kidman so I can make my own “educated” prediction of whether she actually gave birth or not. After looking at my forth celebrity gossip website, I yelped in distress because of a new realization…I have become addicted to Hollywood gossip!!

One of the great perks of being Amy Lynn’s intern…Starbucks! I have to say that I have been spoiled with passion iced teas by both Amy and the Starbucks barista. Two nights in a row the barista accidentally made a venti tea instead of a grande. No complaints here! Thank you so much Amy Lynn and thank you Starbucks baristas!
I spent a good portion of the night labeling Amy Lynn’s pictures from her Summer Getaway extravaganza in the Volkswagen Tiguan this past weekend. You should check the pictures out on her blog. Go to Events - Events calendar and Amy’s Summer Getaway is at the top of the page. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures and hearing about her trip, but I did not enjoy labeling them several times over. I spent multiple hours on a slow, confused, and begging for retirement computer. Both Amy Lynn and I felt a little tired from the lack of cooperation from the computer and the program on it, but we still managed to laugh a lot and have a good time.
After looking at her pictures, Amy and I discovered that we both want to join the Red Hat Society when we reach the beautiful age of 50. And we found out that we really, really enjoy going out to eat. The obvious solution is for us to join the Red Hat Society together and go out to dinner wearing red hats, red boas, bright purple shirts, and holding red and purple handbags. Amy will be joining the Red Hat Society slightly sooner than I will, but I can hardly wait!! In the meantime, we’ll have to dine together in pink hats and lavender shirts, as I have learned this is the appropriate attire for women who are far below the age of 50 and are aspiring to become Red Hat members.
Looking into the future as we are eating dinner in our red hats, I predict that Amy Lynn will order pork. This past weekend, Amy unintentionally became a pork connoisseur and indulged in pork chops, pork tenderloin, and pork BBQ sandwiches. We had a good time laughing about her large pork consumption over the weekend and decided that Amy Lynn should be free from any sort of anemia! Hoorah!
Amy’s favorite country song continues to be “Country Man” by Luke Bryan. Becky thinks this is because Amy wants a country man. I can say that I’d go for a country man! But please, no tractors…that’s just pushing it.
I also thought I would add a little tidbit to explain the picture. Since I’ve been an intern at KMPS, everyone in my family has converted to being a country fan except one member...my dog Yodi. So today, while I was at home, I took the liberty of turning him into a country fan, or at least giving him a country image. I tied a red bandana around his neck, and if I do say so myself, he makes one adorable country dog! I think I should work on my country image and invest in a pair of cowboy boots…I’ll work on that.
See you Wednesday and I’d love to hear your feedback!

Toby Keith’s lyrics inspired this blog. See how many Toby songs you can find (the quotation marks might give you a little clue). :)
Although I could have used a “little less talk and a lot more action” this weekend, I had a jam packed fun time. I can say for sure that I didn’t smoke “weed with Willie,” and I definitely didn’t “get drunk and be somebody,” but I rocked the KMPS trailer at the King County Fair and saw the “Big Dog Daddy” in his Biggest, Baddest Tour at the White River Amphitheater. I was bummed that I missed Montgomery Gentry, but seeing Toby Keith in concert was phenomenal. Toby looked hot jamming on the stage, playing his guitar in his cowboy hat, and I’m sure half of the audience was thinking, “I should’ve been a cowboy!”
KMPS had the best Toby Keith Pre-Funk Party Saturday night with Big Daddy giving a live broadcast. With both Big Daddy and the Big Dog Daddy at the White River at the same time, it left you questioning, “who’s your daddy?” Several KMPS listeners were able to answer that question when they won ticket upgrades and a chance to Meet and Greet with Toby and his band from the KMPS raffle! Many were disappointed when their ticket numbers weren’t called, but for those who won...the look on their faces exclaimed, “how do you like me now?” A good portion of the crowd enjoyed selected beverages at the concert and could said, “I love this bar,” or beer garden, rather. In the midst of the concert festivities, KMPS listeners showed appreciation for the “courtesy of the red, white, and blue” by filling out cards for the troops that will be sent overseas. Overall, the concert was absolutely incredible and left you wanting more and more of Toby. I guess we will just have to wait for Toby’s new movie “Beer for my Horses,” which will be in theaters August 8th. In case you missed this concert and are thinking “you ain’t much fun,” you can still experience the magic of a performance at the White River Amphitheater by going to see Brooks and Dunn the day after you check out Toby’s movie on August 9th. I’ll be there!
Because I’m not as “good as I once was,” my long, exhausting Saturday was happily met by an extra long snooze on Sunday morning in my bed at home. Because I’m not a very “high maintenance woman,” I accompanied my mom and sister in errands and a visit with my grandmother. I also spent some time with my dachshund Yodi. Getting smothered with wet licks, I told him, “you shouldn’t kiss me like this!” I need to find someone with less slobber and two fewer legs who I can ask to “love me if you can.” ;-)
It’s getting late, and with so much on “my list” to do for tomorrow, I should get some sleep. But I hope you enjoyed this blog full of Toby Keith songs.

Wednesday, July 16th, top priority; Starbucks run. Amy Lynn and I took a quick trip to get tasty cold drinks before the show. Amy got this new healthy banana smoothie thing, and the barista gave me a little sample, in an itsy bitsy cup, with an itsy bitsy straw. It was very cute and amazingly delicious, especially since it only has 270 calories and 5 grams of fiber. And to clarify, that’s the whole drink, not just my sample. Yum-yum! And I had my usual, passion iced tea. A pure delight!
Tonight Amy and I had lots of fun. We had a good time laughing about Tony Thomas’ 5 o’clock Test Track, which was called “Bartender Song” by Rehab and Hank Jr. It was actually pretty good, and will most likely get stuck in your head if you listen to it more than once. Which isn’t a bad thing…because if you listen to it more than once, you probably like it, right? Check it out on kmps.com and let us know what you think of it. Although Amy really enjoyed the test-track, I think she likes the song, “Country Man” by Luke Bryan more. She cranked up the music real loud and we had a rock out session in the studio. It was very entertaining. :)
While you are online, you should also look at the new pictures I posted on Amy’s myspace from the remote at the 76 station on Sunday. We had a great time and Amy and I were busy handing out smiles, KMPS tattoos, and free gas!!! Lots of listeners and customers at the pumps came over to the KMPS tent and spun the 76 wheel to try their luck at winning free gas. Even if they didn’t win any gas, people received magnets, pencils, frisbees, 76 balls, or KMPS goodies. Although all those prizes sound like knock-your-socks-off fun, nothing beats the $100.00 of free gas that one lucky winner received. Jealous?? Yeah, me too, but it isn’t too late to win gas for life. Purchase 10 gallons of 76 gas and pick up a game card inside the station and check online to see if you won (Crossing fingers).
In the Yee-Haw Hollywood Headlines, Amy Lynn talked about Eva Longoria’s weight gain to achieve her new “mom” look for the next season of Desperate Housewives. Being a complete Housewife nut, I cannot contain my excitement for the new season and after that Hollywood Headline aired, I have the Housewives on my mind. Who’s up for watching all the episodes on DVD? Me!!!
For intern business, Amy is teaching me how to run the board in the studio, and I have been taking notes so I don’t forget which button does what. I am all about avoiding disastrous situations, so with my notes, Amy Lynn’s teaching and help; I should be all set for my practice run! I also started preparing some MP3’s for a possible job opportunity for when I return to Western for my senior year in the fall. Woot woot! I’m really excited to be finishing my degree. Can you tell??
It was an awesomely, fantastically, fun night, as always. And I have so much energy! I think it will be a while before I get to sleep tonight.
