Event: NAMI WALKS Washington Date and Time: Saturday, 5/10/2008, 9:00 am
Details: The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in the state of Washington is holding its annual walk to raise funds for its various affiliates across the state (including NAMI Eastside in Redmond, NAMI Greater Seattle and NAMI South KingCounty). Funds raised will be used to provide for support groups and educational forums for the mentally ill, family and professionals. Please join us for a day that is sure to not only raise funds and awareness about mental illness in our community, but will be great fun!! Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna will speak and lead off the Walk and afterwards there will be live music by The Rock Candy Band! Show your support by creating a team, joining a team, helping raise money or just showing up the day of the event. There is no registration fee, but anyone that raises a minimum of $100 will receive a NAMIWalks t-shirt.

Event: Great Strides Walk to benefit Cystic Fibrosis Date and Time: May 10th 10:00am Check-In, Walk begins at 11:00am
Details: 4 mile walk that benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Walk along the paved Cushman Trail in Gig Harbor. Enjoy music, silent auction and bbq after the walk.

Event: Queen, It's a New Day!
Date and Time: May 12, 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Details: Volunteers needed for: this charity event to encourage women who come to "Queen, It's a New Day" from shelters and transitional housing. Hosts and hostesses are needed to escort our guests into the hotel on a red carpet, guide to beauty stations for hairstyling, cosmetic makeovers, and help with on-the-job wardrobe selection. Volunteers needed also: hairstylists, cosmetic representatives, massage therapists and manicurists. This day gives our "queens" a boost in self esteem necessary to help them begin new lives. A wonderful day for both "queens" and volunteers! Please call for volunteer orientation meeting times prior to the event .

Event: 8th Annual PLANT SALE, Benefiting Rescued Animals

Event: Shrimpfest Date and Time: May 24, 2008,10am-6pm and May 25, 2008, 10am-5pm
Details: ShrimpFest is a Memorial Weekend seafood festival. We have craft and food booths, belt sander races, exhibits, live music, children's activities and so much more. Bring along your favorite decorated belt sander and try your luck in the race (both days at 1:00PM). The tides are usually low enough during this weekend for easy harvest of clams and oysters on the public beaches near the festival and the weather is traditionally good during this holiday weekend. This is great family fun and it' s FREE too! Proceeds from ShrimpFest 2008 will to be donated to community projects.

Event: TelluRide, Flood Relief Concert for United Way of Lewis County Date and time: May 31st, 7-9pm
Details: Nashville based band, TelluRide is no stranger to the northwest as three of the band members are originally from Washington State! The band features local native Adam Craig as their lead singer and lead guitar player. The band was put on the map late last year with a hit video on CMT's Music City Madness with their song "Phone Song" The bands first album is scheduled to come out later this summer. Event: Relay For Life of Shoreline / North Seattle

Event: Slug Fest Silver Slimy 25th Anniversary Date and Time: June 21 and 22, 2008, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Details: Super-slimy sloppy (human) slug races, advanced degrees in slugology and other whimsical wackiness are the order of the day during Slug Fest, Northwest Trek’s tribute to the misunderstood native banana slug. Grown-up gardeners can even get tips on ways to discourage the nasty non-native European slugs from munching the marigolds. Free with park admission. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with trams ru nning hourly.

Event: The Out of Darkness Overnight Walk
Date and Time: Saturday, June 21st, 7pm - June 22nd
Details: It is an approximately 20-mile walk through the night, from dusk to dawn. The Overnight is designed to raise funds and awareness and help end the stigma surrounding suicide and depression. Every 16 minutes in the U.S., someone dies by suicide and more than 20 million people suffer from depression each year. The walk brings together friends, family members and loved ones whose lives have been touched by suicide or depression, giving a voice to issues that have previously been kept in silence and an opportunity to reflect and share with others touched by this tragedy.
Location: Seattle- The exact route is still being finalized and subject to change.
Cost: The registration fee is $50. Full-time students (in college or high school) are eligible for a special $35 student rate

Event: Puget Sound DockDogs at the Mill Creek Festival and Street Fair

Event: Senior Month Date and Time: September 1 - 30, 2008
Details: The weather is grand and the crowds are small – a perfect time for folks 65 or better to get half-price admission to Northwest Trek and take advantage of the relaxed pace of fall. Event: Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk
Date and Time: September 12th - 14th 2008
Details: Walk 60 miles in the boldest breast cancer event in history - the Breast Cancer 3-Day benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
Location: Seattle- The 3-Day route covers approximately 15-22 miles each day for three days in a row, totaling approximately 60 miles.

Details: Novice and veteran walkers and runners alike will enjoy a break from the norm, so raise your spirits and your animal smarts with Run Wild at Northwest Trek. Event: Hoot 'n' Howl Date and Time: October 24 & 25, 2008, 6 - 10 p.m.
Details: It’s all treat and no trick at Northwest Trek’s Hoot ‘n’ Howl. This is one of the very few times the park is open to the public at night and it is a great chance to see our animals’ nocturnal behavior. Games, crafts and lots of non-scary fun keep the family busy throughout the lighted trails of the park. And there are yummy treats to eat as well. For a reduced price and to ensure your space, make reservations online by 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22. Admission at the door is higher and may be limited in case of high demand.
